VRBO Automated Messages and Responses: A Host Guide

How to set up automated messages on VRBO, what the built-in templates can and cannot do, and how to answer guest questions instantly 24/7.

VRBO guests ask the same questions Airbnb guests do: where do I park, what is the WiFi, how do I get in. VRBO gives you some built-in tools to automate the answers, but there is a hard limit to what scheduled templates can do. Here is how to set them up, and where you will still get stuck.

What VRBO automates out of the box

Inside your VRBO account, scheduled messages let you send a fixed piece of text at a set trigger, for example a booking confirmation when a guest books, or a check-in note the day before arrival.

  1. 1Open your VRBO inbox and find the automated or scheduled messages settings.
  2. 2Create a message for each moment: booking confirmation, pre-arrival, check-in, and checkout.
  3. 3Set the trigger and timing for each one.
  4. 4Use the available placeholders so each message greets the guest by name.

Templates you can paste in

Booking confirmation
Hi {guest_name}, thanks for booking {listing_name}! We are looking forward to hosting you. I will send check-in details and the entry code closer to your arrival. Reply here any time with questions.
Pre-arrival
Hi {guest_name}, your stay is almost here. Check-in is any time after {checkin_time} at {address}. Your entry code and directions arrive right at check-in time. Parking: {parking_note}. Safe travels!
Check-in
Welcome, {guest_name}! Entry: {entry_instructions}. WiFi network {wifi_name}, password {wifi_password}. Anything you need during your stay, just message me. Enjoy!

Where scheduled messages stop working

Scheduled templates only send. They cannot read a guest reply and answer it. The moment a guest writes back "the code is not working" or "can we check in early," the automation goes quiet and it is back to you, whatever the hour. That gap is where most VRBO hosts still lose their evenings.

The reply gap

Roughly the same handful of questions account for most guest messages, but they arrive at unpredictable times and each one expects a real answer. A template cannot give it. Something has to actually respond.

How to actually automate the responses

To close the reply gap you need something that answers back, not just sends. Rezi is an AI co-host that connects to your VRBO calendar over iCal and answers your guests on a dedicated line by text and phone call, in seconds, around the clock. It knows your check-in details, WiFi, parking, and house rules, replies in the guest language, and escalates a real problem like a lockout to you. It works the same way across Airbnb and VRBO, so you run one assistant no matter where the booking came from.

Does VRBO have automated messages?
Yes. VRBO offers scheduled messages that send fixed text at set triggers like booking or pre-arrival. They send on a schedule but cannot answer a guest who writes back.
How do I automatically respond to VRBO guests?
VRBO scheduled messages cover outbound text. To respond to incoming questions automatically you need an AI assistant like Rezi that reads the message and answers it instantly, 24/7, then escalates real emergencies to you.
Can I use one tool for both Airbnb and VRBO?
Yes. Rezi syncs with both Airbnb and VRBO over iCal and answers guests on a dedicated number per listing, so you manage one assistant across both platforms.

Let Rezi handle the messages for you

Rezi answers every guest text and call in seconds, 24/7, in your voice. It sends check-in details on time and only pings you for what truly needs you.
